Earlier this trimester, 3rd graders spent a handful of lessons learning about issues that currently impact two specific ecosystems: the rainforest and the arctic tundra.. Through different books and video clips, students learned about deforestation and global warming, in addition to their impact on the environment. After comparing both of these issues, students selected one of them to create an independent project using an app called PicCollage. These lessons incorporated various technology skills in addition to 3rd grade science, writing, and research standards. Be sure to click the link below to view their projects!

Since April is National Poetry Month, all of our Bobcats completed a lesson which tied into poetry this week. Below are a sampling of activities completed during our Kindergarten, 3rd, and 4th grade lessons.
Our 4th grade students created Color Kite Poems using similes. After getting some ideas from the book Blue is My Happy by Jessica Young, students selected their own color to focus on for their poem. Once they had completed a rough draft, students wrote out and decorated their color kite. 4th graders also had the option of sharing their poems aloud with the class.
These past two weeks, our youngest Bobcats have practiced identifying characters and setting through three different activities. One station was a setting and character sort where students cut out various pictures, sorting them accordingly. As part of their second station, Kinders watched a video book called T is for Terrible and had to then either write or draw the main character and setting for the book. Groups that had time also practiced listening for new facts through a nonfiction book called Dinosaur Teeth. Our final station was this trimester's technology project. Kinders used an app called PuppetPalsHD and selected three characters and one setting to be part of their "story". Then, students recorded themselves sharing their selections. These projects can be viewed through the link below!
This week, 1st grade Bobcats concluded their study of the Caldecott Award. After exploring the pictures of multiple winning and honor Caldecott books, students selected one as their favorite. Students then applied their book choice to create this trimester’s technology project using the ChatterPix app. Through the ChatterPix app, students created a mouth on their book cover in order to make it seem as though a character on the cover or the book itself was talking. Enjoy hearing about some of their favorites through their class videos below.
