After reading the poetry books Sliver Seeds, 3rd graders wrote acrostic poems with the challenge of using the vertical letters to create a sentence or "story" for the word. Students used the blank side of their notecards to illustrate their poems. They were also given the option of sharing their poems aloud to the class. |
Since April is National Poetry Month, all of our Bobcats completed a lesson which tied into poetry this week. Below are a sampling of activities completed during our Kindergarten, 3rd, and 4th grade lessons. Our 4th grade students created Color Kite Poems using similes. After getting some ideas from the book Blue is My Happy by Jessica Young, students selected their own color to focus on for their poem. Once they had completed a rough draft, students wrote out and decorated their color kite. 4th graders also had the option of sharing their poems aloud with the class.
