Those sounds you heard this week weren't ghosts; we finally got up and running with LHTV - spooky music and all! Our first crew went on air at the beginning of the week, and they're off to a great start! From now until the end of the school year, our fifth grade applicants will be running our live feed, daily morning announcements, taking on the roles of anchor, camera operator, audio technician, video technician, titler, and teleprompter. Below are some pictures of our current crew.

A few weeks back, our 3rd-5th grade students visited the learning commons to hear about this year's eight William Allen White Award Nominees. As students read books independently, in class, or through our chat'n'chew opportunity, they will color in part of their world map. Why you ask? Our theme this year is "The Amazing William Allen White Race". To learn more about this event, you can go to the William Allen White link at the top or click the button below. Happy reading!
Every year, 4th graders at Langston Hughes study famous Kansans as part of their social studies curriculum, but it's not everyday that they get to MEET an ACTUAL famous Kansan! On Thursday, our 4th graders got to meet illustrator Brad Sneed who was born (and still resides) in Kansas. Students learned about Mr. Sneed's childhood and how he became an illustrator. Through his presentation, we saw the various stages that take place in order to complete the illustrations of a book and learned about what the process entails. Mr. Sneed even took the time to create a drawing for us to add to our collection! Here's some pictures from his visit...
Below are some of the books Brad Sneed has illustrated that we have available in our learning commons.
This past month, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders had internet safety lessons during their library time. In 5th grade, we talked about being good digital citizens who are safe, respectful, and responsible online. 5th grade students then created their own digital superhero and comic strip to help save the mistakes that can sometimes be made online. Follow the link below to see their creations!
