A couple weeks ago, our 1st grade Bobcats were introduced to graphic novels through the book Hippopatomister by John Patrick Green. In this book, hippo leaves the zoo and goes out into the real world as a hippopatomister to try out a variety of different jobs with his friend red panda. In the end, all of his job experiences help him to save the zoo. After reading the story, 1st graders brainstormed various possible jobs and selected one that they thought they might be interested in for the future. With that job in mind, 1st graders drew an outfit and gear on their Hippopaomister (or "miss") page to show their choice. During the following week's lesson, students completed a building challenge in small groups using wooden KEVA planks and magnetic PowerClix. One material needed to be used to create a specific animal, while the other needed to become an enclosure. They had a great time; see their creations below!

Everyone loves a good scavenger hunt! This week our Kinders were placed into teams of three and assigned a specific letter of the alphabet. Teams set out on a scavenger hunt to find an item that represented their letter and a book written by an author whose last name started with their assigned letter. From there, teams worked together to create a digital page for our ABC book. Great job Kinder Stars! |
