This past week, all of our classrooms have come in for their initial lesson. During this time, Kinders learned about good book care by comparing books to babies...how we should hold them carefully, be careful around pets, keep them in safe places, and wash our hands before we touch them. Our first through fifth grade students talked about some additional "R's" that applied specifically to the learning commons - being RESPONSIBLE with our books, RESPECTFUL with our shelf markers, and READY for checkout. We used a great and silly new book in our library called A Perfectly Messed Up Story by Patrick McDonnell to lead our discussion on being responsible. |
Well, a new school year is off and running. Things are a little bit different this year, but one thing's for sure, we'll be busy! This year, each class has a set 45 minute library time every week. During these lessons throughout the year, students will learn specific library skills, internet safety, and complete various activities which tie into their classroom and grade level curriculum. Students will also visit the learning commons during a separate time on a weekly basis with the opportunity to checkout books.
