Every year, our primary students participate in the Bill Martin Jr. Award for the state of Kansas. Between now and February 3rd, all of our K-2 students will read this year's ten nominees either in the library or with their classroom teacher. Last week in the library, we read a fractured fairytale called GoldiRocks and the Three Bears. All grades worked to compare this version to the original story, and then completed a separate activity based on their grade level. On Thursday and Friday, some of our K-2 classes read two additional nominees as part of our lesson - What do you do with an Idea? and I am Yoga. We used What do you do with an Idea? as a way to introduce some of our new Building Challenge Tubs! After reading, students were able to develop their own ideas and create items using our new wooden KEVA planks and PowerClix magnets. Half way through, we took a break to read I am Yoga, where our K-2 teachers helped to model the various poses for us to complete. Students were then able to work with the other building challenge material at their table. Some of our K-2 classes will be completing this lesson Monday and Tuesday of next week. Take a look at the slides below to see the fun ideas our students have come up with!
