At Langston Hughes, we are incredibly thankful for our amazing staff! The picture to the right, shows Mr Pugh coming in with one of our kinder classes. He happened to sit in one of our green chairs to read a book to one of our kinder friends. Before we knew it, a crowd of attentive little listeners had gathered around. How lucky are we to have such amazing patrons excited about reading! |
Our 2nd graders have been learning about various inventions and inventors as part of their social studies curriculum. In the library, we have incorporated these ideas by starting to learn about the Sibert Medal, an yearly award given to children-friendly nonfiction books. After learning about the award, we read a recent Sibert Medal winning recipient, Balloons over Broadway, a book about puppeteer Tony Sarg who invented the very first ballon floats for the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade! 2nd graders will work with one other Sibert book about an invention prior to winter break, and then additional Sibert Medal books in February not related to inventions/inventors.
