Kinders also had their first introduction to Dot Day. Each of our classes contributed to three different dot posters that we will display in our learning commons. Whether their class was assigned to use markers, crayons, or colored pencils, all of of our Kinders had the chance to officially "make their mark" at Langston Hughes.
While I'm sure this year's Dot Day was a little disappointing for some (no DOTS candy...sorry bobcats!), I think we made up for it by introducing our new coding robots Dot and Dash. This week, our 1st-5th grade students got to view Dash in action and explore Dot for themselves in small groups. Our new coding robots were funded by a grant through the Lawrence Schools Foundation - thank you LSF!!! Throughout the year, all of our grade levels will have the opportunity to explore and do more coding with Dot and Dash whether it's through isolated lessons or activities that tie into their classroom curriculum. Be sure to be on the watch for future Dash and Dot activities! Having fun with the Path app Having fun with the Blocky app Kinders also had their first introduction to Dot Day.
