This year's 5th grade students were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to meet author Kate Klise. Prior to her visit, our students spent time in the classroom and the library reading one of her chapter books, doing an activity with two of her picture books, and learning about her life and experiences as an author. During her presentation, Kate focused on her writing process and the structure she uses to set up all of her stories. After sharing this model, students had the opportunity to apply this process during a writing workshop time. Some students were then able to share their story and get feedback from Kate regarding what they had completed so far. Thanks for visiting us again this year, Kate; we always love seeing you at Langston Hughes! |
