For this current round of lessons, our 3rd through 5th graders have been reviewing fiction versus nonfiction and the various genres that fall into each category. They've been practicing differentiating the two and categorizing various genres through an interactive Smart Notebook activity and a sort using Scholastic book orders (sorts vary in their difficulty based on grade level). These grade levels are also practicing to organize fiction books based on the first three letters of the author's last name. Some of our 4th and 5th grade students... Here's an example to show how different grades are completing different types of sorts.
