After discussing exaggerations as a key component in tall tales like Johnny Kaw during last week's lesson, our 3rd graders began their tall tale building challenge stations this week. At their station, teams started their lesson by following along with an ebook for their assigned tall tale and identified two exaggerations from the story before taking on their building challenge. Teams reading Pecos Bill created a lasso out of plastic grocery store bags, those reading John Henry built a train engine out of our magnetic PowerClix, and students reading Paul Bunyan made a pen for Babe the Blue Ox with our wooden KEVA planks. Over the next two weeks, teams will complete all of our tall tale activities. |
